Post updated at 1:34 p.m. Saturday, April 6:
The weekly Saturday morning Lawrence Farmers’ Market is set for its season grand opening on April 13.
So far, more than 70 vendors are signed up, according to the market’s website. They offer produce, meat, eggs, homemade baked goods, wine, honey, coffee, tea, hot breakfast, fresh lemonade, live plants, cut flowers, cosmetics, handcrafted pottery, knitted goods and more.
All items are locally sourced as vendors are required to farm or produce their goods within 50 miles of the market, according to the website.
According to Market Manager Anna Skenadore, weekly markets that have been held on Tuesday afternoons in previous years will not be continued this year. She said the board made that decision because of low vendor availability and low attendance last year. The board wanted to focus on expanding Saturday programming and finding a permanent location for the market, she said.
“The Board hopes to bring back Tuesday market when we have our permanent location or if there is enough public interest in bringing it back!” she said.
Opening day for this Lawrence Farmers’ Market season is set for 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13 in the parking lot area at 824 New Hampshire St.
The market will continue with the same hours of operation every Saturday through Nov. 23, according to the market’s Facebook page.
Pets are welcome at the market as long as owners follow community guidelines.
Cash as well as debit, credit and EBT cards are acceptable forms of payment. To pay by card, patrons can stop by the Market Info Booth, located near the alley in the New Hampshire Street lot, to swipe their card in exchange for Market Tokens.
There are two-hour free parking lots on New Hampshire and Vermont streets; there’s a two-hour free parking garage on New Hampshire Street; and there’s nearby metered city parking, free parking in the surrounding neighborhoods, and bike parking north of the Rhode Island Street entrance. View this parking map for more information.
