Brenda Wahl, who has worked with Family Promise of Lawrence for more than nine years, is stepping into the executive director position.
The change comes “as the organization completes the renovation of 200 Mt. Hope Ct., which will provide shelter for up to six families at a time,” according to a news release from the organization. “This is in addition to three other programs FPL offers for families facing a housing crisis in Douglas County.”
Wahl’s position took effect Saturday, and FPL announced the news Tuesday night.
“In the years that I’ve had the privilege of working at Family Promise of Lawrence, I have seen families’ lives changed as they’ve done the hard work to get stabilized in housing,” Wahl said in the release. “Housing instability is not going away for families, and I’m honored to be able to continue the work of FPL in this new position.”
Wahl will fill the role of Dana Ortiz, who announced in February that she planned to retire in August after 13 years with FPL.
FPL in May announced Monique Wahba as the new director, but Wahba resigned in July because the role did not “align as well with (her) career goals” as she had anticipated.
Wahl has served as director of operations for FPL over the past several years and took over as interim executive director following Wahba’s resignation.
“After a decade of creative and committed service to Family Promise of Lawrence, we already know the gifts and talents that Ms. Wahl brings to the position,” Matthew Sturtevant, president of the FPL board of directors and member of the executive director search committee, said in the release. “Yet we are thrilled to see how she will bring those gifts to bear in a new position of executive leadership. As we serve families and our community in the days ahead, we are excited that Ms. Wahl will be leading the way.”
