As acclaimed author Louise Erdrich rolls out her just-published book, “The Mighty Red,” she will visit Haskell Indian Nations University to discuss the work.
Erdrich, member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, is a Pulitzer Prize Award winner and author of novels, poetry volumes, children’s books, and a memoir on early motherhood, according to an event page on the library’s website.
“The Mighty Red” has been selected as a finalist for the 2024 Kirkus Prize for Fiction. The novel is about a prairie community in North Dakota and “tells a story of love, natural forces, spiritual yearnings, and the tragic impact of uncontrollable circumstances on ordinary people’s lives,” according to a synopsis.
Haskell, the Lawrence Public Library and Raven Book Store are hosting the event, welcoming Erdrich back to Lawrence. She visited Haskell before in 2020.
Erdrich’s talk is scheduled for 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 in the Haskell Auditorium, 155 E. Indian Ave. It’s free to attend, and no registration is required.
The Raven will be selling pre-signed copies of “The Mighty Red” afterward.
