Ken Lassman presented to about 30 people Sunday during an Earth Care Forum about ”the dynamic cycles of life in our local ecosystem and ways to rejoin our lives to nature,” Sam Raugewitz wrote in submitting this photo.
Lassman is pictured with Michael Almon, leader of the Sustainability Action Network, and Thad Holcombe, coordinator of LETUS – Lawrence Ecology Teams United in Sustainability.
”The three are holding some artifacts of our local ecosystem, which Ken brought to signify the importance of keeping the natural world ever-present in our lives,” Raugewitz wrote.
Earth Care Forums will continue from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. each Sunday through Feb. 2 at First Presbyterian Church, 2415 Clinton Parkway.
The Jan. 19 presentation, ”Mapping our Natural Heritage: A Geographer’s Perspective on the Rare Plants, Animals, and Ecosystems of Kansas,” will feature Jennifer Delisle, associate researcher with the Kansas Biological Survey and Center for Ecological Research.
On Jan. 26, Kristen Baum, director of Monarch Watch, will speak on opportunities and challenges for monarch conservation. And on Feb. 2, Sharon Ashworth, horticultural and natural resources agent for Douglas County, will speak on the topic “Gardening to Support Insects: Native Plants Matter, But Don’t Rip Out Your Peonies.”
The events are free to attend, and all are welcome. Find more information about upcoming sessions in the newsletter at this link.
