Douglas County will close a public recycling dropoff at the Stull church permanently on Friday, March 14, because of frequent illegal dumping, according to a news release.
The recycling site, at Stull Community of Faith Church at 1596 East 250 Road, “has been heavily used, but it has also been misused,” and has been a concern for many months, according to the county.
“Large unaccepted items and loose bags of waste have been left at the site,” according to the release. “The church grounds and adjacent properties have been frequently littered with windblown materials.”
County staff members are working to find a new location for recycling in the western portion of the county, according to the release.
In the meantime, there are sites at Prairie Moon Waldorf School, 1853 East 1600 Road; in Vinland, 1704 North 700 Road, and at Greenbush Resource Center, the former Wakarusa Valley school, at 1104 East 1000 Road.
Here’s a map, via the county’s website:
Newspaper and office paper (but not shredded paper), magazines, cardboard, aluminum cans, plastics and glass are accepted and can be mixed together. Sites are serviced on Tuesdays and Thursdays, according to the release.
