Baker University has announced Jody Fournier as the next president.

He will begin in the position on July 1, according to a Tuesday news release from the university. The Baker board of trustees selected Fournier unanimously, according to the release.

“Dr. Fournier brings more than 25 years of experience in academic leadership, most recently as Provost and Vice President at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio,” according to the release. “… Dr. Fournier’s expertise spans student affairs, enrollment management, accreditation, strategic planning, and institutional partnerships — all of which will be instrumental in shaping Baker’s future.”

Fournier said in the release that he’s deeply honored to join Baker as its next president.

“Baker’s rich legacy, unwavering commitment to student success, and outstanding faculty and staff make this institution truly special,” he said in the release. “I look forward to building on its strong foundation, anchored in Baker’s United Methodist heritage, while embracing new opportunities, innovation, and collaboration to shape a bold and dynamic future.”

Fournier holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Science in Family Relations and Human Development – Child Development from The Ohio State University, where he also received a doctorate in developmental psychology, according to the release.

Hoot Gibson has served as acting president since October 2024. He took over after Lynne Murray, Baker’s president for the prior decade, announced plans to step down when she was named president of McMurry University in Abilene, Texas.
