Downtown Lawrence Inc. announced the return of Midsummer Night on Mass for the third year in a row with a slate of shopping deals, sidewalk entertainment, movie screenings and more.

This year, featured MSN events will take place from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, June 20, throughout downtown. Participating businesses may run their deals all day for early-bird shoppers.

“Midsummer Night on Mass (MSN) has been extremely successful in its first two years,” Andrew Holt, executive director of Downtown Lawrence Inc., said in a news release. “It is a great combination of a fun community event and a celebration of our unique downtown … The participating businesses do a great job of making it a special day with creative and terrific promotions.”

Promotions are available at a range of businesses, from retail stores to restaurants such as The Roost, which will reopen for special hours from 5 to 8 p.m. that day. The return of MSN also marks another year of Wonder Fair’s popular Blunder Fair, a “once-a-year clearance sale and celebration of mistakes,” according to MSN’s website.

New this year, MSN will feature an “activation area” along West Eighth Street, including Dottie the mobile library from the Lawrence Public Library; the KU band and pep squad; Kansas Public Radio; a screening of “Mr. Peabody and Sherman” with popcorn and refreshments at the Watkins Museum; and more.

Shopping opportunities will be accompanied by “sidewalk entertainment from buskers, caricature artists, balloon twisters and face painters,” per the news release.

See msnonmass.com for a full list of promotions and participating organizations.
