A local civic engagement organization is leading “an evening of connection, conversation, and community power-building,” coming up Tuesday.

“Loud & Local: A Summer Advocacy Forum” is set for 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 24 at Ecumenical Campus Ministries, 1204 Oread Ave.

“This event will feature tabling from local Lawrence advocacy organizations so you can explore ways to plug in, get involved, and take action all summer long,” according to the event page.

“We’ll also host a panel discussion where groups will share more about the work they’re doing, the issues they’re tackling, and how we can build grassroots power together,” the page continues. “Whether you’re new to advocacy or already plugged in, you’ll leave this forum more educated, connected, and ready to make an impact.”

Some of the more than 15 organizations anticipated to be present include Lawrence Tenants, Lawrence Sanctuary Alliance, Lawrence NAACP, PFLAG, Food Not Bombs and the ACLU of Kansas, Donnavan Dillon, Lawrence/Topeka organizer for Loud Light, said via email.

There will be snacks and drinks, and organizers encourage people to RSVP at this link and bring a friend, Dillon said.

“Come meet your community, learn what’s happening locally, and find your place in the movement,” according to the event page.
