Rosy-cheeked rascal from the North Pole gets stranded again; Lawrence firefighters to the rescue

Lawrence was abuzz ahead of Friday’s downtown holiday lighting ceremony, wondering if Santa would once again find himself in an embarrassing predicament. The jolly man did not disappoint.

Like clockwork, Saint Nicholas got himself stranded on top of Weaver’s Department Store, leaving many to wonder what his reindeer were up to.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical firefighters know the drill by now, and they made it to the scene with a ladder that Santa is surely familiar with. They got his feet safely on the ground.

The annual downtown Lawrence lighting ceremony kicks off the holiday season. There are ample holiday-themed events coming up around town, like holiday markets, musical performances and light shows. See it all at lawrencekstimes.com/holiday-2025.
