The Lawrence area’s World Cup preparatory team will host social media workshops for Douglas County businesses to gain visibility and customers as the Kansas City metro area experiences a flood of tourism.

Thousands of international soccer fans and millions of dollars are expected to descend upon Kansas City this year as the city hosts six World Cup matches. Planners expect the effects to ripple well beyond the KC metro area.

Lawrence 2026 — the area’s World Cup prep coalition including the city, the county, the University of Kansas, Explore Lawrence and the local chamber of commerce — will host two free social media workshops to help local businesses and groups prepare.

“We’re calling this series ‘Winning the Feed’ because that’s exactly what we want our local businesses to do,” Tyler Lindquist, of Multistudio, and a member of the economic development planning team for Lawrence 2026, said in a news release. “When thousands of visitors arrive this summer, we want Douglas County businesses to stand out, tell their stories and capture the attention they deserve.”
