7/30/1944 – 4/21/2026
Columbia, Missouri

James Myers, born on July 30, 1944, in Lawrence, Kansas, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026, in Columbia, Missouri, at the age of 81. His life was a testament to hard work, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family and community.

James graduated from Topeka High School before beginning a career marked by determination and adaptability. He worked for Santa Fe Railroad and later transitioned to Jayhawk Oil. Alongside his beloved wife Diana, James successfully owned and operated Myers Liquor for two decades. After retiring from business ownership, he remained active by working as a bus driver for First Student, demonstrating his lifelong commitment to meaningful contributions.

James found joy in many pursuits that reflected his love of life’s simple pleasures. A Master Gardener with a talent for creating beautiful outdoor spaces, he took great pride in his yard. He enjoyed fishing, daily walks—especially with his loyal dog Abby—and relished the companionship of friends over a cold beer. When James moved to Columbia, Missouri, his warm personality quickly endeared him to neighbors and new acquaintances alike.

Above all else, James cherished his family. He found immense purpose in caring for those he loved and treasured time spent with his grandchildren. His devotion to his wife Diana was steadfast; her passing in September 2025 left an indelible mark on him.

James is survived by his daughter Amy Schmitz and her husband Patrick of Columbia, Missouri; sister Lois Salazar of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sister Linda Rissman of Colorado Springs, Colorado; nephew and niece Rob and Danielle Frisbie; nephew and niece Christian and Cindy Jaillite; and his grandchildren Jordan, Elijah and Cortez. He will also be fondly remembered by those fortunate enough to know him.

May James’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him as they reflect on the remarkable life he lived.
