The Lied Center of Kansas’ 2026-27 season lineup promises more than 30 programs, from a music performance by a MacArthur genius to a touring Broadway production of “Legally Blonde the Musical.”
Among the season highlights is singer and multi-instrumentalist Rhiannon Giddens, who has won a Pulitzer Prize, two Grammys and a MacArthur “Genius” Grant. Giddens will take the Lied stage for a folk music performance with rock-concert sound levels at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2027.
“Giddens has centered her work around the mission of lifting up people whose contributions to American musical history have previously been overlooked or erased, as well as advocating for a more accurate understanding of the country’s musical origins through art,” according to the event page.
The new season starts in September with the Tyreek McDole Duo for the Lied’s Just Friends Jazz Series, which takes place in the intimate setting of the center’s pavilion.
Other notable events include a night with author and humorist David Sedaris, the a capella group Straight No Chaser, and Broadway shows such as “Waitress,” “The Book of Mormon,” and “Legally Blonde.” Another Broadway show will be announced Monday, June 8.
Family-oriented programming will give tots a chance to see “Curious George: The Golden Meatball,” Cirque Kalabanté and Popovich Comedy Pet Theater.
“Beyond these performances, my favorite Lied Center activities are our free education programs, which will continue and grow in the new season,” Derek Kwan, Lied Center executive director, said in a news release. “School-only performances reach every student in Lawrence Public Schools annually.”
Individual tickets go on sale to the public Monday, June 8.
