Maple Lane improvement project to wrap and other Lawrence traffic updates

An improvement project that’s been ongoing on Maple Lane will wrap next week as contractors do final line striping on 19th Street.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of our community as we work hard to bring these much needed improvements to Maple Lane,” a city news release reads. 

Here are more traffic and construction updates:

Downtown road closures for Busker Festival weekend

East Eighth Street and New Hampshire Street

Closures are in place for the Lawrence Busker Festival, which will continue through the weekend.

Closed areas include Eighth Street between Massachusetts Street and the alley between New Hampshire and Rhode Island streets, as well as between Vermont and Massachusetts streets; and New Hampshire Street, halfway between East Eighth and East Ninth streets.

Those closures will be in place through noon Monday, May 25.

900 block of New Hampshire Street

The 900 block of New Hampshire Street between Ninth Street and the south entrance of the parking garage before 10th Street will be closed starting at 6 a.m. Saturday, May 23.

The closure is for the Art Tougeau parade, which starts at noon. The road closure will end at 3 p.m. on the same day.

Other closures around town

25th Terrace between Haskell Avenue and Harper Street

Contractors will close both directions of East 25th Terrace between Haskell Avenue and Harper Street starting at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 26. They’ll be doing cured-in-place piping (CIPP) storm sewer work.

Work will be complete midafternoon the same day.

Indiana Street between 11th and 12th Streets

Indiana Street between West 11th and 12th Streets closed last week for private contractors to work on the roof of the Oread Hotel.

The city expects the road to reopen by the end of the month.

Avalon Road between Ninth Street and Cambridge Road

Contractors closed Avalon Road between West Ninth Street and Cambridge Road Monday, May 18 for utility work and sidewalk construction.

The city projects Avalon Road will reopen Monday, June 8.
