Free State High School students earned awards — and double snaps — from Starlight Theatre Thursday for their staging of “The Addams Family.”
Starlight Theatre, based in Kansas City, Missouri, doles out Blue Star awards for musical theatre excellence annually to KC area high school students.
This year, FSHS garnered multiple awards and nominations for its production of “The Addams Family Musical: School Edition,” which was staged Nov. 6 through 8.
Here are the winners:
• Piper Northrop, Tier 1 Blue Star Award for Outstanding Lighting Design
• Harper York, Tier 1 Blue Star Award for Outstanding Performer in a Featured Role for her portrayal of Grandma
• Free State, Tier 1 Outstanding Orchestra

FSHS students in the pit orchestra included Annah Steele, Miles Beaty, Nate Willems, Pryce Brinkerhoff, Baila Love, Lauren Hannah, Seraphina Braden, Alex Kerr, Ryan Hethcoat, Dexter Dillingham, Cleo Green, Rory Kuhlmann, Kalyn Finckbone, Anders Benson & Eden Weber. The pit orchestra included the following adult mentors and accompanists: Michael Houser, Scott Robinson and Lauren Thiessen. Aspyn Roundy was an adult member of the orchestra.
Piper Northrop also received a nomination for Senior Rising Star.

• Kennedy McDonnell and Caden Hodges, Outstanding Scenic Design
• Felix Ovsak as Lurch, Outstanding Performing in a Featured Role
• Free State Lighting Crew, Outstanding Technical Crew
• Free State, Outstanding Ensemble
• Free State, Outstanding Overall Production
“Due to their nomination for Outstanding Overall Production, the cast … performed the opening number of the musical, ‘When You’re an Addams,’ in front of the Blue Star Awards audience at Starlight Theatre,” according to FSHS teacher and director Bryce Jones.
