Lawrence
MaDonna D’Neil Reed, 62, of Lawrence, KS, passed away peacefully in the presence of family and friends at Lawrence Memorial Hospital on May 10, 2026.
“Mootsie,” as many knew her, was born on March 4, 1964, in Lawrence, KS, to Kyra Alfrea (Wright) Ware and Thirl McDonald Reed. She was a Lawrence, KS, native and graduated from Lawrence High School. After working for many years as a forklift operator for both Kmart Distribution Center and Del Monte Foods, she went on to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Caregiving was not just a job to MaDonna; it was a labor of love. She treated everyone like family. She made sure everyone around her was taken care of. Even in the midst of an impending stroke, she was doing something to help someone in need.
MaDonna was preceded in death by her mother and father, Kyra (Wright) Ware and Thirl Reed; her brother, William Delano Wright; her sister, Talonna Reed; and her nephew, Christopher Reynolds. She is survived by her sister, Cheryl Smith Wilson (Marcus); nieces, Keyonna Reed and Marka Nelson; nephew, William Wright Jr.; great-nieces, Mia Monegro and Marliana Nelson; great-nephew, Markus Cruse; as well as other extended family.
MaDonna will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Services will be held at St. Luke AME Church in Lawrence, KS, on Saturday, May 30, 2026.
