A one-night Firefly Festival will light up Burroughs Creek Park in Lawrence with bioluminescence and live music.
The festival will start at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 27 and end around 10:30 or 11 p.m. at Burroughs Creek Park, 900 E. 15th St.
“Bring friends!” the event page reads. “Let’s make magic and learn how to care for our creek!”
The evening will feature artwork by Adella Goldworm. From 5 to 7 p.m., there will be a community picnic and jam session. Folks can bring their own food, drinks, blankets, chairs and instruments.
At 7 p.m., organizers will give a short talk about fireflies on the main stage, followed by performances from Weda Skirts and Mike West. Linda Tilton will serve as an ASL interpreter for those acts.
Last but not least, the River City Brass Band will accompany attendees on a musical stroll along the Burroughs Creek trail.
Attendees are encouraged to bring flashlights with a red setting, but organizers will provide free red filters. Folks should go light on the bug spray on their clothes and keep their hands washed.
