O’Connell Children’s Shelter will mark its 50th anniversary with a community celebration and ribbon-cutting for Elsie’s Place, a new family service center in Lawrence.
The event will highlight the organization’s history of providing services for children, youth and families, while introducing a new resource for the community.
The facility will include three dedicated juvenile stabilization center beds for youth and children, according to a news release. It is set to open in August.
The ribbon-cutting event will start at 10 a.m., with speakers at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 28 at 1332 East 1600 Road. Elsie’s Place is on the northwest corner of the O’Connell property.
Guests will be able to tour Elsie’s Place and the O’Connell ranch property. Refreshments will be provided, and parking will be available onsite.
