The Lawrence Community Orchestra will commence its 2026-27 season with a “Fire and Fantasy” performance for their first of four musical events.
“Fire and Fantasy” is at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27 at Lawrence High School, 1901 Louisiana St.
The show is described as one that ignites the imagination, with music that “sparkles, shimmers, and blazes with color.” The orchestra will perform the overture of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute,” Glazunov’s “The Enchanted Castle” and Stravinsky’s “Firebird Suite.”
The performance will also feature Daniel Ketter, a new professor of cello at the University of Kansas, playing a concerto called “Mirage,” composed by Andrea Casarrubios.

Other upcoming performances are listed on the event calendar with more details to be released later:
• LCO’s “Reimagined” concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6 at Swarthout Recital Hall, 1530 Naismith Drive.
• The Beat Beethoven 5K is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 24 at the Lawrence Loop.
• The final performance of the season, “America’s Soundtrack,” is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, April 25 at South Park, 1141 Massachusetts St.
