A new quarterly concert series focused on bringing experimental jazz, improvised music and other genre-defying acts to Lawrence will soon debut at the Lawrence Arts Center.
The first event is set for 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, in the Lawrence Arts Center main theater.
Guitarist, composer, and arranger Gregory Uhlmann will headline, accompanied by Kansas City musicians Josh Adams, Shawn E Hansen, and Sterling Holman performing as a trio.
Love Garden Sounds and the arts center are collaborating on the new series, which aims to broaden the range of live music available locally.

Love Garden Sounds co-owner Kelly Corcoran as well as business owner Edmond Stansberry began developing the project with the goal of creating a lasting program, according to a news release.
“The vision of the Abstraction series is to present contemporary avant-garde, improvised and left-of-center music at an approachable price for anyone who wants to engage,” Corcoran said in the release.
Marlo Angell of the arts center said the series builds on boundary-pushing programming previously featured during the Free State Festival.
“The Abstraction Series brings new energy to the Arts Center stage,” Angell said. “This new collaboration with Kelly and Edmond brings genre-defying artists to Lawrence in both traditional venues and the unexpected.”
The series is supported by a City of Lawrence Community Arts Grant.
General admission tickets are $15 and available in person at the arts center, 940 New Hampshire St., and online through the center’s event page.
