Lawrence community members are invited to tour the completed first phase of the city’s new Municipal Services and Operations campus on the east side of town.

The event will kick off with a ribbon cutting at 5 p.m. and the facility will be open to tour until 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17 at 1840 O’Connell Road. It’s free to attend, and all are welcome.

“The City invites residents to come celebrate this milestone, meet the people behind many of Lawrence’s essential services and get an inside look at what it takes to keep the City running,” according to a news release.

MSO staff members oversee streets, water, stormwater, solid waste and more. The two-phase MSO campus is combining many of those divisions into one location on the city’s Farmland property, which is near O’Connell Road and Venture Park Drive.

The completed first phase of the project and the second phase, which is in progress, are costing the city approximately $130 million.

“The MSO Campus represents a major investment in a safer, stronger and more resilient Lawrence,” according to the release. “The new facility brings essential City teams together in a modern, centralized environment designed to better support employees, improve coordination and strengthen the services the community relies on every day.”
