The Lawrence St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee has announced three organizations that will benefit from the 40th parade and its festivities.
Americana Music Academy, Baby Jay’s Legacy of Hope and O’Connell Children’s Shelter are the three nonprofits serving children and families that will receive funding from the parade and the events leading up to it, according to a news release from organizers.
Americana help make music education accessible to young people regardless of their ability to pay; Baby Jay’s Legacy helps support children battling cancer and their families; and O’Connell supports children and youths with residential, foster care and family-support programs, according to the release.
“The Committee is proud to share that we have raised more than $1.6 million for dozens of Douglas County area children’s charities,” according to the release. “In 2027, we proudly celebrate 40 years of bringing Lawrence together to have fun, build community, and raise money for local children. We look forward to continuing that tradition and making our 40th parade season one of our most meaningful yet.”
The parade is held each year on March 17 in downtown Lawrence, but there are also fundraising events leading up to it. That includes Fall Irish Road Bowling, set for Saturday, Oct. 10 at Clinton State Park.
More events leading up to the parade include a bowling tournament, trivia night, charity auction and a 5K/10K.
