A training and educational session aims to prepare community members in the case of federal immigration enforcement activity in Lawrence.
Sanctuary Alliance and Somos Lawrence will host their first Community Solidarity Training from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2.
The two organizations have collaborated on recent social media alerts and additional awareness, given the increased ICE arrests and detainments under the Trump administration, but both are preexisting staple resources for immigrant communities and non-English speakers in Lawrence.
“We will be training on what to do if you suspect immigration enforcement or ICE activity, how to keep yourself and your neighbors safe and education on the local effort to support the impacted community,” a post about the event on the Sanctuary Alliance Facebook page says. “We will provide next steps to expand our network into neighborhoods to support all Lawrencians.”
Registration is required via this Google form, and the location of the event will then be shared with registrants. According to the form, attendance is free of cost and welcome to “anyone who is interested in organizing their neighborhood and community around safety.” Registration will close by 11 a.m. Saturday.
Stay updated with both organizations on Facebook, Sanctuary Alliance and Somos Lawrence.
