Lawrence motorists may have noticed four open lanes on Iowa Street Thursday after almost a year of construction work.
Although there are still a few finishing touches to be made, the city will fully open the street next week.
Maureen Brady, a city spokesperson, said crews are still restriping the road, which will last through Friday and possibly early next week.
“We’ll also have a few more permanent signs installed next week, which will temporarily close one of the outer lanes of traffic for one day,” Brady said via email.

Signage is the last step toward completing the Iowa Street reconstruction project. Brady said the city will make an official announcement next week once all work is completed.
The Iowa reconstruction project was announced in January and “included improvements like a rebuilt roadway, new sidewalks, new streetlights, and new waterlines and storm sewer infrastructure,” according to a city traffic update that went out last week.
