About half a mile of southbound Haskell Avenue is closed to traffic following an overnight water system leak.

The City of Lawrence responded to a potential water system leak near 1705 Haskell Ave. around midnight Monday. Crews completed the water system repair at approximately 6:45 a.m. Monday, according to a news release from the city.

Road restoration work is now underway on southbound Haskell between 15th and 19th streets, and a detour is directing traffic to Barker Avenue, according to the release.

The closure is expected to last through Friday afternoon.

“The City appreciates the public’s patience as crews complete this work and restore the roadway as quickly and safely as possible,” according to the release.
