A person is in critical condition following a shooting Friday afternoon in the Hawks Pointe apartment complex, according to the Lawrence Police Department.
Police say they have arrested a man who they suspect “went to an apartment, knocked on the door, then shot another man at the entrance.”
The shooting occurred around 11:45 a.m. Friday at a building in the 1500 block of Lynch Court, which is south of Seventh Street and west of Michigan Street.

Reporters at Hawks Pointe observed one marked and one unmarked police car. A carpet steamer van sat outside an apartment building that had police tape strung across the front. Officers at the scene said they did not have any more information beyond what was included in the department’s earlier Facebook post.
Police later said the search for the suspect led them to Fourth and Minnesota streets, “where we believe the suspect left the car he was traveling in and took off again.”
A reporter at the scene saw around four or five police vehicles near homes on Minnesota Street south of Fourth Street.
Multiple officers approached one home as a black truck towed a green sedan away and headed down Fourth Street, followed by a police vehicle.

Police followed leads around town, according to the department.
“An officer eventually identified another car associated with the suspect traveling near 6th and Iowa and followed the car while additional officers moved in,” according to police. “The team conducted a traffic stop as the car turned into a neighborhood near Kasold and Peterson.”
Police said there were three people in the car, including the suspect, and all surrendered without incident.
A reporter at the scene observed police and Kansas Highway Patrol troopers leaving the area of Hutton Farms a little after 3:30 p.m. Friday.
“Everyone involved is being questioned, and we can’t responsibly confirm the involvement of each of the individuals at this time. Details will be part of the ongoing investigation,” according to police. “The suspect will ultimately be transported to the Douglas County Correctional Facility as the shooting investigation continues.”
