The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #2 Lawrence, Kansas, has set up a memorial fund for those who wish to support the family of Lawrence police Officer Zachary Garcia-Kerns, who died this month at age 28.
Garcia-Kerns served on the KU Police Department starting in October 2021 and joined the Lawrence Police Department in November 2023, where he served until his death on April 3.
Garcia-Kerns was off duty, and no foul play is suspected in his death, according to LPD. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was working the death investigation. His family requested no further details be released, according to the police department’s news release last week.
Lawrence FOP Lodge #2 announced the memorial fund for Garcia-Kerns’ family on Sunday.

“This is the only official memorial fund authorized by the family. All proceeds will go directly to the family,” Dan Affalter II, president of the lodge, said via email Sunday.
Donations can be made via Venmo to “Lawrence FOP Lodge #2,” username @lawrencefop, or using the QR code here.
