Deputies received a DNA confirmation from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation on Friday, according to a news release.

Collins was released from the jail on July 6, 2021, after posting bond, and his family had reported him missing a couple of days later.

“Several months later on Jan. 31, two residents walking in the 1700 block of North 1250 Road noticed remains near a creek and alerted the Sheriff’s Office,” according to the release.

“Responding deputies and detectives confirmed the remains were human, and they searched the area and located additional bones near the water. A forensic anthropologist assisted in the investigation.”

No foul play is suspected in Collins’ death, according to the release.

The site where Collins’ body was found is roughly a mile and a quarter southeast of the jail, near Kansas Highway 10. The pin on this map shows the approximate location.
