The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is not planning to release the name of the woman who was killed in a crash last week on Kansas Highway 10, according to the agency’s public information officer.

The woman was not responsive when first responders got to the scene of the crash, which was reported as a head-on collision, late Thursday night. She succumbed to her injuries and died at the scene, and the man in the other vehicle was seriously injured. Neither driver had any passengers, Deputy Charlie Cooper said.

The crash was at mile marker 381 on Highway 40, better known as the curve near the Clinton Parkway interchange on K-10.

The Times asked for updates about the crash Friday afternoon and Monday morning. Cooper responded via email Wednesday that DGSO would not release the names of those involved in the crash “at all,” but if that changed, she would let the Times know.

But in response to a follow-up email asking why, Cooper said “The name of the female is not being released due to the accident still being under investigation and awaiting autopsy results.”

Cooper said the crash report was expected to be completed by this coming Friday. Crash reports, which contain the identities of those involved in crashes, are open public records. The Times will request a copy.
