Fire damages LDCFM training center; no injuries

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical firefighters quickly contained a fire outside their own training center at 1941 Haskell Ave. Saturday.

There were no injuries, and damage was contained to the exterior of the building, according to an LDCFM news release.

Dispatch received multiple calls reporting the fire near 20th and Haskell at 11:38 a.m., according to the release. Eight units and 22 firefighters responded, and LDCFM arrived within four minutes, according to the release.

The cause of the fire was under investigation Saturday afternoon, but Lawrence police have detained a person of interest, according to the release.

Damage estimates were not yet available.
