Police were dispatched around 5:15 p.m. Saturday to an apartment complex near 13th Street and Maple Lane for a reported shooting.

First responder radio reports indicated someone had been shot somewhere outside the apartment building. Reports over the emergency radio are preliminary and have not always been confirmed.

A Lawrence Times reporter at the scene saw medics put one patient in an ambulance. Late Saturday night, a reporter saw the department’s investigations unit at a nearby house on Maple Lane that had been taped off with crime scene tape.

Lawrence police had not released the victim’s name as of 11:45 p.m. Saturday.

We have asked police several other questions, including whether they believe there is an ongoing threat to public safety connected to the reported shooting. Laura McCabe, a spokesperson for the Lawrence Police Department said earlier Saturday evening that there was no suspect in custody.

“Investigators will work through the night to continue to interview witnesses and search for the suspects,” McCabe said via email late Saturday. “We are following several leads.”

The red pin on the map shows the approximate location of the incident.
