A two-day hearing on a disciplinary case against the Douglas County district attorney has been postponed at her attorney’s request, which cited a “personal tragedy.”

The hearing was set for Thursday and Friday of this week. It’s regarding a complaint a judge made about DA Suzanne Valdez’s conduct. Read the backstory in the links below.

“Respondent’s Counsel has encountered a personal tragedy which will require Counsel to attend to the personal matter leading up to and during the course of the hearing,” Valdez’s attorney, Stephen Angermayer, wrote in his motion to continue the hearing.

Members of the disciplinary panel who will hear the case agreed to the continuance, but they have not yet set a new date.

The hearing is expected to include testimony from most of the Douglas County District Court judges.

Special prosecutor Kimberly Bonifas and Angermayer have both filed lists of anticipated witnesses and exhibits. Bonifas has also named two potential aggravating witnesses, Judges Sally Pokorny and Stacey Donovan. Angermayer has named five potential mitigating witnesses.

Here are Bonifas’ lists of witnesses and exhibits:

Disciplinary matters are not included in the state’s online court records portal, but the hearing will be open to the public. We will report the new dates when we receive them.
