Douglas County under tornado watch through late Monday

Douglas County is on the eastern edge of a tornado watch spanning parts of Kansas, Iowa, Missouri and Nebraska until 11 p.m. Monday.

A “couple strong tornadoes” are possible, according to the National Weather Service in Topeka. The NWS issued the advisory just before 4 p.m. Monday.

Also, hail of up to 3 inches in diameter is possible for Lawrence, as well as wind with scattered gusts up to 80 mph, according to NWS. Isolated flash flooding are also possible.

For Tuesday through Sunday, “The probability for widespread hazardous weather is low,” according to NWS.

A tornado “watch” means conditions are right for a tornado to be possible. A tornado “warning” means a tornado is imminent.
