A man was injured in a stabbing in an argument with a co-worker late Sunday at El Potro Mexican Cafe in southern Lawrence.

Police were dispatched to the restaurant near 33rd and Iowa streets around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, and they found a man with injuries that turned out not to be life-threatening on his upper body and face.

The man was taken to an area trauma center.

“The suspect had taken off but officers were able to quickly determine his identity and caught up with him in a parked car near 24th and Ridge Court,” according to a social media post from the Lawrence Police Department.

Officers took the suspect, a 28-year-old Lawrence man, into custody and took him to police headquarters for questioning. The man was later booked into the Douglas County jail on suspicion of aggravated battery, jail records indicate.

“Our Investigations Unit was called in and will continue to follow up on the case today,” according to the post.
