Travis Goff, director of athletics for the University of Kansas, has signed a seven-year contract extension that includes a base salary boost to $1.3 million each year.
Goff’s original salary was $700,000 per year for five years. The agreement, which extends his contract through May 31, 2031, will increase his salary by $40,000 per year over the first three subsequent years, and by $50,000 per year for the latter three years — ultimately a base salary of $1.57 million in 2030-31.
He’ll be eligible for annual bonuses of a maximum of 10% of his salary, as well as retention payments of $125,000 to $200,000 each year.
He’s also getting a new title, according to a KU news release on Wednesday: Director of Athletics/Vice Chancellor for Athletics.
Goff, a KU alum, called the position his “destination job” during his first KU press conference in April 2021.
On Wednesday, he said KU is responsible for many of the blessings in his life: “an exceptional student experience and degree, my passion for college athletics and the opportunity for my wife, Nancy, and I to raise our family in this community, amongst many others,” he said in the release.
“I have the privilege to work with the best coaches and staff in the country, and together, we serve a remarkable university, passionate fanbase and, most importantly, 500 of the most inspiring young people in society – Jayhawk student-athletes,” Goff continued in the release.
KU Chancellor Douglas Girod said in the release that Goff has proven to be among the most respected athletic directors in the country.
“He has established a culture of excellence and integrity within Kansas Athletics — and done so while navigating unprecedented changes to the collegiate athletics landscape and positioning KU for long-term success,” Girod said in the release. “We are thrilled he’s a Jayhawk, and we look forward to his leadership for years to come.”
