The National Weather Service in Topeka received several reports of snow totals in Lawrence following Sunday’s blizzard. The highest was a total of about 11.5 inches.
Winter flocks are in full swing as juncos, cardinals, woodpeckers, bluejays, titmouse and even crows come together with the collective goal of getting enough food and avoiding predators.
Lawrence community members — including Alfred the cat — had some fun playing in the snow Sunday.

The City of Lawrence will delay solid waste services scheduled for Monday and throughout this week by one day because of the winter storm.

Update: First United Methodist Church in downtown Lawrence opened its doors for overnight emergency shelter, and the University Community of Christ will open at 10 a.m. Sunday as a day shelter.

Freezing drizzle that began Saturday afternoon in Lawrence will increase and continue before turning into snow as the sun comes up Sunday, according to a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
Multiple crashes had already been reported Saturday as ice began to coat the streets of Lawrence. We’ll post closures and cancellations for events and locations that are sent to us here.
