The Lawrence Police Department received a call regarding an active shooter at Free State High School Wednesday morning, but it was a hoax call, according to a news release from the department.

Just a week into the school year, Lawrence school district administrators have been working with police to investigate two reports of alleged threatening comments made by students at West Middle School and Lawrence High School.
Although Lawrence school board members spoke highly about the Lawrence police officers serving as SROs, some have voiced concerns about the potential for students whose mental health may be struggling to interact with the criminal justice system — particularly at the middle school level.
