The Lawrence Humane Society’s Paw Valley Challenge begins Saturday. No team? No problem — all are welcome on Sugar’s team.

The fundraising event encourages folks to get outside with their pets runs throughout the month of May.

Walk, run, roll or bike as any miles as you want — you set your own goals. You can then sync your activity with a fitness tracking device or manually enter activity data to track it.

Participants who would like to can join the team of Sugar, the Community Resource Cat, who “works full time” at the humane society’s Pet Resource Center. She has “1 paw, 3 claws, half a tail, and an indomitable spirit!”

Those who join in will get a T-shirt and a tote bag, according to the humane society.

“All proceeds from this event help provide resources, care, medicine, vaccines, food, and advocacy to the animals who come through our doors,” according to the fundraiser page.

Sugar’s team, for those who would like to join, is called “The Sugar Cubes – We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Paws!”
