Motorcyclist flown to hospital after crash near Lawrence airport; other driver fled, sheriff’s office says

A motorcyclist was flown to an area hospital after a crash with an SUV Wednesday, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

The SUV fled the scene of the crash toward Leavenworth County, DGSO said in a tweet just after 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Highway 24/40 will be closed to all traffic between East 1500 and East 1600 roads for “an unspecified amount of time,” according to the tweet.

That’s near the Lawrence Municipal Airport, north of town.

Additional information, such as the motorcyclist’s identity or a more complete description of the SUV allegedly involved in the crash, was not available Wednesday evening.
