A person was killed after being struck by a vehicle near 15th Street and Haskell Avenue Wednesday morning, Lawrence police said.
Early information in the investigation indicates that a vehicle heading eastbound on 15th Street struck a pedestrian who was pushing or riding a bicycle near the street’s intersection with Haskell Avenue, Lawrence Police Lt. David Ernst said in an email Wednesday afternoon.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Ernst said.
Investigators were “working on notifying next of kin of the deceased” as of 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, Ernst said, and the investigation was ongoing.
The intersection was closed for about four hours, and police asked people to avoid the area. The intersection reopened around 1:30 p.m., Lawrence Police Major Trent McKinley said.
