A view of Lawrence: Repair of Wescoe’s roof brings giant new landmark

A repair of the roof at Wescoe Hall has left behind a massive new campus landmark — 80-foot blue letters spelling “KU.”

Commercial roofing company CentiMark, which has offices in Lenexa, installed a new roof on the Jayhawk Boulevard building, according to the KU News Service.

When Mark Reiske, KU’s director for facilities, planning and development, found out that the company had done rooftop logos for other clients, he was “interested in a KU presence on Wescoe,” according to KU.

Once the roof was on Wescoe, “CentiMark crews heat-welded square sheets of a thermal plastic material in KU blue to the roof, guided by a giant stencil,” according to KU — and it came at no extra cost.
