Lawrence police were dispatched around 10:15 p.m. Saturday near 22nd Street and Kasold Drive for a report of a pedestrian lying in the roadway, said Lt. David Ernst, a spokesperson for the Lawrence Police Department, via email Sunday morning.

Officers found the pedestrian suffering from life-threatening injuries, and the person was taken to an area hospital by ambulance, Ernst said.

“Officers received information the driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian was at an area residence,” Ernst said. “Officers contacted the driver who was interviewed and released pending further investigation.”

Southbound Kasold Drive was to be closed “for the next several hours” while officers investigated, according to scanner traffic around 10:35 p.m.
