Semi-truck driver seriously injured in crash on I-70 east of Lawrence

The driver of a semi-truck suffered serious injuries in a crash Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 70 a couple of miles east of the North Lawrence interchange.

Kelly Edward Noss, 61, of Dougherty, Iowa, was eastbound near milemarker 207.8 at 2:14 p.m.. Tuesday when the semi-truck he was driving left the roadway to the south, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol crash report. The semi-truck then reentered the roadway as it began to overturn and struck the inside barrier wall.

Noss was wearing a seat belt, according to the report. He was taken to the University of Kansas hospital with suspected serious injuries.

The eastbound side of the highway was closed for a few hours Tuesday afternoon and evening as a result of the crash.

Leavenworth County first responders requested aid from Douglas County to handle the crash, scanner traffic indicated.
