JAYHAWKS WIN! KU takes national championship; Lawrence celebrates

The Kansas Jayhawks are national champions once again, and pure joy has filled the air in Lawrence.

After a rocky first half that sent the Jayhawks to the locker room trailing 40-25 and left fans on edge, Bill Self’s team came back to send the Tar Heels home in tears. The final score was 72-69.

This is KU’s first championship since 2008, and the team’s second under coach Self.

Fireworks could be heard all over Lawrence.

Need championship gear right now? At least two stores told us they’re opening tonight to provide it to you: Jock’s Nitch, 826 Massachusetts St., and Dick’s Sporting Goods, 2727 Iowa St. The Shirt Shack was planning to open again on Tuesday.

The Jayhawks will return to Lawrence on Tuesday. There will be a welcome-back celebration at 4 p.m. at Memorial Stadium, according to the postgame radio show.
