Voting ends late Friday night for the Lawrence Humane Society’s Cutest Crowler Contest.

Lawrence Humane has partnered with Lawrence Beer Co. to present the contest, which is a new take on the animal shelter’s springtime pet photo contest. For an entry fee of $5, pet parents can enter their cat’s and/or dog’s most adorable photo into the competition. Floofs’ family members, friends and fans — and the owners themselves — can vote for the cutest pets for a donation of $1 per vote.

As of Tuesday evening, kitty cats Ghostopher (1,316 votes) and Rumford (1,015 votes) held substantial leads over their fellow felines — Squeeps was in third with 290 votes. Sixty cats had entered the fierce competition.

In the dog category, Frank (655 votes) and Etta (615) held more than 100 votes over the third-place pooch, Ladidadi (501). There were 154 dog entries.

The dog and cat with the highest number of votes when the contest ends at 11:59 p.m. Friday, April 15, will be featured together on Lawrence Beer Co.’s crowlers this summer.

“Not only will your dog or cat get to be featured on the LBC Crowlers, but your pet will also have their picture artistically, digitally adapted for the LBC Crowler design by a local Lawrence artist!”

Crowlers, the page explains, are 32-ounce aluminum cans filled to order from the LBC taps, “like a classic growler. A seamer machine seals them up with a lid exactly like a normal can of beer.”

Both the grand prize winners’ parents will receive a framed 8-by-10-inch print of their pet in the artistic style of the crowler, two crowlers filled with the beer of their choice, two registrations for Lawrence Humane’s Paw Valley Challenge event in May, a T-shirt, a $25 gift card for Lawrence Beer Co., and, of course, bragging rights for having the cutest pet in Douglas County.

Runners up — the cat and dog who receive the second highest number of votes — will receive two complimentary registrations for the Paw Valley event and a Lawrence Humane T-shirt.

As of Tuesday, the fundraiser was a little more than halfway to its goal of $30,000.
