Residents report gunfire in eastern Lawrence; no known injuries

Residents in the 1500 block of Wedgewood Drive in eastern Lawrence on Saturday afternoon reported sounds of gunshots in the area for at least the second time in recent weeks.

Lawrence police were investigating following the report of shots fired just after 2 p.m. Saturday.

“Multiple vehicles were struck, as well as a residence, but no injuries were reported to police,” according to a Facebook post from LPD. “Investigators believe this is related to the previous shots fired incident near this intersection. Officers and investigators are still actively investigating to identify and follow up on suspect leads.”

On Thursday, March 23, LPD posted on social media that officers were investigating a shots fired call that had occurred around 7:45 p.m. the night before.

“Several area residents near 15th and Wedgewood called 911 to report the sound of gunfire in the area,” according to that post. “Shell casings were recovered in the roadway, but suspect information is scarce.”

Police had not released any further information about the incidents as of 5:15 p.m. Saturday.
