The buckeye is found in native oak hickory woodlands in the eastern third of the state and is now blooming. These pretty flowers will eventually produce hard black buckeye seeds that some people keep in their pockets for good luck.

Community members braved the chilly weather Saturday afternoon to attend the Earth Day Fair in South Park. Twenty organizations from Lawrence and beyond offered free crafts and educational activities for kids and adults alike.
The Lawrence Sertoma Club on Wednesday presented checks for $5,000 to four community organizations. The money was raised from the drive-thru holiday light display, Lawrence Lights – Making Spirits Bright.
The Kansas Food Truck Festival will not be held this year, but organizers are working with the city and partners to bring the popular fundraising event back in summer 2024.
