Here’s a quick roundup of closures, changes and more for the Juneteenth holiday:
• Parking at meters, lots and in garages in downtown Lawrence will be free Monday, June 19.
• Lawrence Transit buses, including fixed-route and paratransit buses, will run their usual schedules on Monday.
• Solid waste collection will be delayed by one day, so regular Monday customers will have collection on Tuesday, regular Tuesday members will have collection on Wednesday and so forth. There will be no yard waste collections, bulk item pickups, rolloff services, or dumpster swaps or maintenance throughout the holiday week.
• Lawrence Parks and Recreation administrative offices will be closed for the holiday, but all other parks and rec facilities will operate as normal, including Eagle Bend Golf Course and the Outdoor Aquatic Center.
• The Lawrence Public Library will be closed on Sunday and Monday. However, the online library is open 24/7.
• Douglas County District Court will be closed Monday, and those summoned for jury duty should report on Tuesday, June 20. (More details at this link.)
• City of Lawrence and Douglas County offices will be closed Monday.
The Lawrence, Kansas Juneteenth celebration is set for Saturday, starting at 11 a.m. with a parade from Eighth and Massachusetts streets south to South Park.
Several vendors will be set up in South Park selling food and art, and there will be games, live music, activities and more from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday. Read more about that at this link.
