Tonganoxie man was person killed in weekend crash northeast of Lawrence

William Ennis Jr., a 74-year-old man from Tonganoxie, was the person killed in a head-on crash Saturday that also injured two other people, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred around 5:20 p.m. Saturday on U.S. Highway 24-40 between East 1600 and East 1675 roads.

Priscilla Franks, 47, and a 15-year-old passenger were eastbound in a Toyota Sienna, according to the sheriff’s office’s Monday news release. Ennis was driving a Ford Fusion westbound. The vehicles collided head-on in the eastbound lane, according to the release.

Franks suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital; the passenger suffered injuries that were believed to be minor, according to the release. Ennis was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Traffic (Collision) Investigation Unit responded and examined the crash scene on Saturday and will submit its findings in the completed crash report,” according to the release.
