The Lawrence Farmers Market is winding down its season, but the final Saturday morning market will give shoppers a convenient way to help reduce local food insecurity.
Just Food’s Cruising Cupboard will be onsite at the market, so people can buy from vendors and donate directly to the Douglas County food bank.
“We typically have so few vendors by the end of the season, let’s buy them out of what they have left!” according to an Instagram post from the Farmers Market. “Whether you’re stocking up for yourself for the winter, prepping for a big holiday meal, or donating to our community’s most food insecure members — join us this Saturday to STUFF THE BUS with local foods!”
The market suggests buying one and donating one of items such as meat, eggs, squash, flour, jams and more.
“And of course Just Food will happily accept regular pantry donations (canned goods, boxed goods, period products, diapers) during this time too,” according to the post.
The market will be open from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18 in the parking lot at 824 New Hampshire St. Learn more at lawrencefarmersmarket.org and check the market’s Facebook and Instagram pages for the latest info on vendors and more.
Just Food served almost 2,100 households — including 356 new ones — and nearly 5,000 people in September alone, according to the organization’s latest report. Learn more about Just Food and how to give or receive support at justfoodks.org.
The annual Holiday Farmers Market returns to the open pavilion at the Douglas County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9.
