The current assistant principal and athletic director of Southwest Middle School has been named assistant director of special education for Lawrence Public Schools.

Jason Kingman’s new position will be effective July 1. He is completing his fourth year at SWMS, according to a district news release Monday evening.

Kingman earned his bachelor’s degree at KU and master’s degree at Hamline University in Minnesota. He previously served as a student support services compliance manager and special education teacher for five years in districts in Washington, D.C., and Minnesota, according to the release. He served as a special education facilitator for five years before joining SWMS.

Kingman said in the release that he looks forward to rejoining the district’s special education team and supporting “the vital work of educating all of our students with exceptionalities.”

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my tenure at Southwest Middle School, supporting the staff, students, and families of this amazing school,” Kingman said in the release. “I will be forever grateful for the experiences I’ve had at Southwest, and most importantly, for the students and staff I have come to know here. No matter where I work, it will always be a great Bulldog day!”
